Jakarta, July 7 2025 – In a historic moment for Indonesia’s sustainability and agricultural sectors, SAWA EcoSolutions participated as one of the main sponsors in the Public Launching of the Indonesian International Biochar Association (ABII), held at Soehanna Hall, Jakarta. The event marked the beginning of a multi-sectoral collaboration to strengthen the role of biochar in climate change mitigation and accelerate the transition toward sustainable agriculture.
As a pioneer in Indonesia’s biochar industry, SAWA EcoSolutions has set a high standard in producing premium-quality biochar from agricultural waste. With a modern production facility based in Majalengka, West Java, SAWA employs clean pyrolysis technology to transform agricultural residues into biochar that not only improves soil health but also serves as an effective carbon removal solution.
About SAWA EcoSolutions
SAWA EcoSolutions is an Indonesia-based company focused on sustainable agricultural waste management. SAWA produces biochar from various local biomass sources, including empty fruit bunches (EFB) from oil palm and sisal residues, supporting the transition to regenerative agriculture, climate change mitigation, and sustainable development.
Global Expansion Through Strategic Partnerships
To broaden the reach and impact of Indonesian biochar solutions, SAWA EcoSolutions has formed a strategic partnership with Offset8 Capital, an Abu Dhabi-based investor specializing in high-quality carbon projects. Through this collaboration, SAWA is developing large-scale biochar initiatives in West Java and South Sumatra, which are projected to sequester tens of thousands of tons of CO₂e annually. These projects are among the largest commercial biochar operations in Indonesia.
In addition, SAWA has initiated dialogue and early-stage collaboration with partners from Saudi Arabia as part of its effort to expand Indonesia’s biochar technology and products into the Middle East. This initiative opens significant opportunities for Indonesian biochar to contribute to global sustainability agendas, including desert ecosystem engineering and critical land greening programs.
Biochar for the Future of the Planet
The launch of ABII represents a critical milestone in aligning stakeholders—government, academia, and industry players like SAWA—to build a resilient national biochar ecosystem. “We believe biochar is a tangible solution to strengthen food security, revitalize soil, and reduce carbon emissions,” stated a SAWA representative during a post-event interview.
Strategic Support for a Green Transition
During the event, the National Biochar Ecosystem Roadmap and the Biochar-Based Emissions Accounting Methodology were formally presented. These will serve as key references for stakeholders in developing and measuring the impact of future biochar projects. SAWA actively supports these efforts by implementing international production standards and collaborating with partners to scale the application of biochar in agriculture.
Commitment to Food Security and the Environment
Through technological innovation and a collaborative approach, SAWA goes beyond production—emphasizing education and training for local farmers. By improving soil fertility and water use efficiency, SAWA’s biochar contributes directly to a more resilient and environmentally friendly food system.
